Your Worth Cannot Be Taken From You

By Lifestyle No Comments

Jealousy is one of the easiest temptations to fall into, it can demolish your self-worth quicker than you would believe. It comes out of nowhere and hits you like a ton of bricks. Sometimes it hits you in areas that you thought you were strong in. Jealousy rattles your brain, making you question, making you wonder, making you doubt your worth. Our world is constantly pressuring us with the ways they want to define us. We are defined by our looks, by our fitness levels, by our job, by our philanthropy, by our political views, by the home we live in, and honestly the list could go on for days. Jealousy is the byproduct of this pressure to be defined. We feel this need to live up to the standards set for us and that if we are not reaching our highest potential then we have failed.

Know this: you are more than what this world says you are. Your worth is not determined by this world. Your worth is something that cannot be taken from you. Your worth comes from within, your worth is God-given, your worth is undeniable. You are worthy of goodness, of happiness, of a beautiful and wonderful life.

Every single person on this Earth was created with a purpose. Each day that you are alive, each breath that you take is for a reason. You are here to bring goodness to the world, to help those around you, to make this world a little better than it was before. Take a moment to remember that you are right where you need to be. You are in this state, in this city, in this job for a reason. Be thankful for where you are now, grow in that moment, and do not let your self-worth be defined by this world.

When pangs of jealousy hit, remember that your worth cannot be taken from you. That jealousy is a symptom of a broken world, it is a byproduct of sin. Jealousy is inevitable, but you can fight it by remembering who you are. You are perfectly and wonderfully made. You were made in the image of a perfect Creator. You were made to do more than you ever dreamed possible.

As you go through your week, keep these things in mind.

You are worthy of love, trust and respect.

You are worthy of a good and happy life.

You are worthy of a job that you love.

You are worthy of a partner who loves and adores you.

You are worthy of the life you’ve always dreamed of.

You are worthy. Repeat that over and over until you believe it.

You were made in the image of a perfect, gracious God. He did not create you by accident. He loves and adores you and is your biggest advocate that you are worthy of so much more than you believe. Take heart that He loves and adores you just the way you are.

Where Are The Aldridge’s?

By Lifestyle, Travel 3 Comments

Have you ever thought about how much control you have over your future?

Well, when you are in medical school you leave a lot of your fate up to chance. You hope for the best externships programs, you hope that you are matched to the program of your choice. You hope for the best, but you don’t have near the say you wish you did.

We did our externship applications this month, which means we have a completely crazy third and fourth year ahead of us. We placed our lives and futures in a lottery pool and hoped that we would get blessed with the programs we wanted. If you’ve never been through this process, let me explain how it works.

We have about 8 months to fill with externship programs, not including the 5 month home hospital that we have on top of this. You fill out a sheet that basically allows you to apply for 4 externships a month and hope that you receive some offers. The problem that arises is, you get a lot of offers in the same month, which means you have to prioritize one really good program over another and hope you make the right decision.

So, we have spent the last couple weeks praying and hoping that we get some good programs that will give us an insight into their residency and what education they can provide my husband. All of our offers have come and we have filled all of our months for the year! I am so excited to share with you where we will be and am very hopeful that I will get to share every experience with you! If you have suggestions of what to do in any of these areas, please let me know!

Wow Wow Lemonade!!

By Travel, Uncategorized No Comments

Can we just talk about the fact that I am now in love with Wow Wow Lemonade?!

Wow Wow Lemonade has a variety of menu items including lemonades, acai bowls and avocado toasts. Today, I tried their lavender blackberry lemonade and their original acai bowl with a macaroon. Both were absolutely impeccable!! Since they source locally they have intense flavors and additionally are supporting the communities they are in.

  1. I definitely need to head to Hawaii after trying their lemonade and acai bowls! Their locations are in Oahu,  Maui, Japan, Washington, California and Arizona. If you visit any Wow Wow location  be sure to let me know!! 😄

Transition from Apartment to Trailer Life – Part One

By Lifestyle, Travel No Comments

Finding a trailer that we like, that is within our budget is incredibly challenging! We need something that is reliable and doesn’t need work beyond cosmetic tweaks. This is a serious undertaking, I have no idea what to look for or what are necessary requirements. So I am Pinteresting like crazy trying to figure out what to look for, what design I like, what updates I can make, and man there is so much information! But beyond just finding the trailer there is the undertaking of changing our lifestyle.

There are two main areas that I foresee some hard changes in: downsizing and cooking. Lately when I walk around my one-bedroom apartment, I am thinking about all the things that I will need to go through. All the things that will need to be shipped back to Indiana, all the things that might need to be thrown away before we move into the trailer. It’s just crazy to think through and right now these are the questions I am trying to answer!

  • What renovations are necessary in the kitchen? Are you able to cook normally like you would in an apartment? Do you just eat out more often?
    • Currently, I am thinking that the only changes I will make are cosmetic changes and potentially a stone pizza block to even out the heat in the oven. But with the amount of space in the fridges I’m seeing, I think I would have to make at least 2 grocery trips a week. Alternatively, we could eat out more often to eliminate trying to cook within such a small space. I’m not sure what the best option would be seeing as we will be moving around a lot, and I will be working out of the trailer. Are there any guides to cooking in an RV that y’all would recommend?

  • Is it best to go as minimalist as possible or to bring as much as I can stuff in the trailer? Is there a happy middle ground somewhere?
    • At the moment, I am thinking about going more toward the minimalist side. For the sheer fact that the more I bring the more cluttered the trailer will become. So to eliminate the stress of trying to find places for all of our stuff, I would just bring the essentials. The real question will be, what items are ‘essentials’ and what items are ‘wants’, you don’t really think about it when you have room to store everything. But over the next two months, we will have to sort through our essentials and be okay with storing the rest at my parents. Does anyone have a must have list for RV life?

But honestly, I am so excited for the future. I am so excited for this opportunity, because how often do they come? How often do you get the opportunity to try out new areas? How many times do you get to live on the road with your spouse and at the same time be growing in your careers? It’s extremely rare to have this opportunity and for that I am incredibly grateful. So for all the struggles and questions that I have, I am so beyond thankful to be on this journey with my husband.

If you have any advice on trailer living, I would appreciate it! We are new to the game and would love to avoid making costly mistakes!

Stress Free Work Week

By Lifestyle No Comments

You are going to have an amazing week!

You are not going to let stress ruin your week!

Work weeks are tough. There is no getting around it; something goes wrong, a client gets frustrated or a coworker makes you mad. Stress is a constant factor in our lives, especially at work. But there are ways to help alleviate this and make your week fantastic!

The first step is to recognize that while it is an important part of your life, it isn’t everything. That means that when something goes wrong, it’s okay to shrug it off and move on. There are very few problems that warrant the stress we give them. One of the lies I believe the world has told us is that we need to stress out about everything that doesn’t go our way. The danger of this lie is that it causes you physical and emotional harm to stress about every little thing. It hurts you to worry yourself about things you have no control over or trivial things that won’t matter in 2 months. When you find yourself stressing this week, start following these few tips.

  1.  Get up and walk away. Walking away from the situation will help you to put the situation into perspective and to be able to handle with a clear and calm mind.
  2.  Take a sip of icy water. Always have a bottle of water at your desk. Taking small sips of water when you are stressed will help your body to calm down and fight the stresses.
  3. A technique I learned from a therapist in college is to close your eyes and breathe in for six seconds and then exhale for seven seconds. Repeat this technique until you can feel the tension and stress leave your mind. It sounds silly, but this is, without doubt, one of the best techniques I’ve ever tried.

The next thing is to think about what you want to be remembered for. Do you want to be remembered for being stressed out at work? Remembered as the person who was unhinged and constantly worried about things outside their control? Or would you rather be remembered as someone who always brought joy and happiness to those you worked with? Someone who always lent a helping hand to others and valued your needs over their own. Those traits are so much more important than high sales numbers and increased profit margins. Money comes and goes, but character makes a lasting difference. Take charge of your week and choose joy over stress.

At the end of this week, you are going to look back and say that you kicked butt this week. Remember that you are a Rockstar and God has got an incredible plan for your life.

In the hard moments, pray for wisdom and guidance.

When you are stressed, know that God has every situation under control.

You are loved, and you got this.

Fear of Being Late to the Party

By Lifestyle No Comments

I am afraid of being late to the party.

I am afraid of being late to the party. What if I am too late to pursue the things I really want to do? What if I can’t catch up to those who are succeeding in my field? What if I can’t achieve the dream I have set in my head?

These thoughts enter my brain every time I start to think I could do more in life. I am afraid I’m too late to the party. I am too late to become anything special, and all the good ideas and companies have already been created and implemented.

Does anyone else ever get this way? You get excited about a new idea and a new goal that feels right, only to watch everyone around you seem as if they are way ahead of the game? You begin to question why; why do you have a passion for this if all the ideas have already been taken? Can you really offer something new to the world?

Well, I am here to tell you that those feelings are normal. And, I would argue this means you headed in the right direction. If you have a deep passion for something, get excited about it. If you get paralyzed by fear, it is a sign that you need to push through. Push past the fear and see what’s beyond. The things you love in life are there for a reason. If you don’t try, you will never know where you could have ended up!

So here are my tips to overcoming “the late to the party” syndrome:

Tip 1.) Believe you are UNIQUE! That means that your ideas and thoughts are uniquely yours. Don’t be afraid to show the world what only your brain could provide!

Tip 2.) Face your fears. There will always be fears in your life. There is always the fear that you won’t achieve your dreams. The question is whether or not you step up and overcome that fear. Fear has a way of paralyzing us and stopping us from moving forward. Fear of other people’s opinions of you, fear that you will make fool of yourself, or fear that you aren’t good enough. Tell yourself today that fear will not control you. You are greater than your fear. You can accomplish your goals and dreams!

Tip 3.) You aren’t too late. There is no reason you can’t go after that new job, start that business, or pursue a new hobby. Your life is whatever you want it to be! Just because others are further along in their careers, hobbies, or other dreams; has no bearing on whether or not you can accomplish your own dreams! Life isn’t a race to see who gets there first. It’s about being the best person you can be and doing your best to make the world a better place.

Tip 4.) Don’t let others say you can’t. There will always be naysayers and people who don’t believe in your dream. They will tell you that you aren’t smart enough, talented enough, or you don’t have the funds to pursue your dream. Don’t allow their thoughts to affect you. Tell yourself everyday, “I Am Made For More”. You were made for so much more than you know. Have faith in yourself and your dream.

So today, don’t believe the lie that you are too late to the party. Believe that you were uniquely created to accomplish your dreams at this time! Remember this verse from Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Adventure is out There

By Uncategorized No Comments

This past Sunday, my pastor did a nontraditional Easter sermon. He spoke about how we are all created with this innate desire to seek adventure, to see what’s behind that door, to see what’s beyond that mountain. As kids we are so excited to try new things, to see what would happen if we went down that trail in the woods, if we went just a little further down the beach, if we climbed up that rock. We craved adventure and craved seeing things we’ve never seen before. But somewhere along the way, we lost this sense of adventure. We lost our desire to explore and try new things, because we are busy and set in our routines.

We sit on the couch every weekend binge watching Netflix, cleaning the house, or doing chores we pushed off during the week. But we don’t do anything new, we don’t step outside our comfort zone and explore. Nothing happens outside of the one to two vacations we take each year. We accept a life where we only explore and try new things two times a year. But what if we just tried one new thing a week? What if you just took two hours out of your weekend to do something that excites you, that challenges you, that makes you feel like a kid again?

So today, I want to go over 5 Adventures you can try this weekend!

  • Skydiving! This is a bucket list item. If you are like me and have always wanted to go, get out of your comfort zone and do it! There are always skydiving deals on Groupon and you can get videos/pictures of you doing this amazing bucket list item! If you are scared to try it, think about it this way; when you are in a plane flying to vacation, you are always looking out the window in awe of what’s below. It’s such a unique sight, and skydiving gives you a chance to see the world from a whole new view and with the trill of having nothing beneath your feet!
  • Go to a New Sporting Event! I am not a fan of basketball, I’ve been to a couple games with my dad as a kid, but it was never my favorite sporting event. But an opportunity arose for me to go to a Phoenix Suns game this week with people from my work. Did I hop on a chance to experience a new venue and a new team that I’d never seen before? Absolutely! You will only regret the things you didn’t do! See what sporting events are happening in your area and experience something you’ve never seen before!
  • Hot Air Balloon Ride – These rides offer amazing views of your city, or the city you are visiting. I have heard nothing but wonderful things from everyone who has been on one of these rides! You have to pay a little more than usual for these, but they are such a unique experience. Most people go on dates on the weekend anyways, why not make this date one you will never forget?! The best rides are first thing in the morning, so you can see the city wake up right before your eyes! (By the way the best place to get deals on Hot Air Balloon Rides is Groupon)
  • Hike a Trail/Mountain – There are trails or mountains to climb everywhere in the world. No area has a shortage of outdoor spaces to explore. Try a hike that is a little more challenging but offers amazing views, don’t sell yourself short on what you can do and see! In Arizona there are hikes surrounding each area of Phoenix, but if you travel two hours north, there are unbelievable views from the hikes in Flagstaff. Take a quick minute and go to trails.com to find hikes in your area! All it requires is your time and energy!
  • Concerts/Shows– I know for a fact there are concerts/shows every month in every area of the country! It may not be your favorite artist, or the circus in town, but there is something! Go see that new Broadway show, or see Pitbull live! (my husbands dream concert) Go see a local play or go to a bar with live music and see what talent is all around you! Enjoy seeing new things with friends or your significant other, there is so much creative talent if you just go out and find it. If you are really adventurous head out to Nashville for some of the best local live shows around! 😉

Adventure awaits you!

Passion For Travel

By Travel, Uncategorized No Comments

I have always had a deep passion for travel.

There are few things in life that truly make you feel alive, and for me that is getting out and experiencing other cultures, historic structures and stunning views. But what if your passion seems unattainable? What if there is no feasible way to pursue the things you love in life?

When this happens, it causes me to sit down and think about why I have this passion, and what I can do with that passion.

If your like me and have a passion for traveling, but you can’t travel to all the places you’ve dreamed of going right now, take steps to still fulfill that travel ache within you. Your passions in life are there for a reason, and even if they do not seem feasible in the short term, there is a reason for them.

One thing I try to do is offer to go on business trips as often as possible. These trips aren’t always to places on my bucket list, but they give me the chance to get out of my everyday environment, explore new cities and see what they have to offer! We have a fun trip planned to New Mexico this summer for work; it’s not a place I had on my bucket list to see, but it is an opportunity to experience an entirely new state!

Another thing I like to do is start planning for future trips! I have a blast spending time researching the perfect places to stay, the best local cuisine in the area, and the exciting excursions to take while you are there. I’ve been working on a post about Oahu and I’ve spent hours finding the cutest little beach homes to rent. Most of these houses are away from large hotel chains and secluded in an area where you could enjoy the serenity of Hawaii. I absolutely loved envisioning what it would be like to stay there; feeling the ocean tickle your toes, smell the refreshing ocean breeze, and look out at the expansive ocean all around you.

It may not be sitting in the perfect vacation spot, but taking time to plan these trips and envision what could be is a great way to help satisfy your travel bug(at least for a while)!

Lastly, I love to explore the state I am in. There are so many unique areas in every state. So get in your car and drive to a place you’ve never been before. This year my husband and I are hoping to visit Tombstone and Horseshoe Bend. Both areas have their own unique charm, host stunning views, and are within a 2-4 hour drive of our home. Being able to take time to experience the areas all around us is such a blessing and something everyone should utilize.

Don’t let lack of accessibility to your bucket list stop you from exploring new places and enjoying your passion for travel!
